Summer is almost gone, and to celebrate, I started on a cottage core-inspired junk journal. For this project, I wanted to challenge myself by using acrylic paint as the main cover decor and incorporating naturally pressed plants and flowers to adorn it. As I continue its construction, I will explore different image-transferring methods with ideas to use watercolor in my ephemera.

What is a Junk Journal?
In the world of journaling and creative expression, a delightful genre has been capturing the hearts of many: the humble yet enchanting junk journal. If you're new to this captivating art form or curious about its essence, let us guide you through the delightful world of junk journals.A junk journal is an artistic and imaginative endeavor combining journaling, scrapbooking, and mixed media art. Unlike traditional journals that typically consist of pristine pages, a junk journal is a tactile journey where vintage finds, ephemera, scraps of paper, fabrics, and various odds and ends create a unique, multi-dimensional canvas. Traditionally, junk journals are made of recycled items you would usually discard. Some popular items used to construct the covers include cereal boxes, manila folders, and shipping packages. The decor is made out of envelopes, vintage photographs, ephemera like old tickets and postcards, handwritten notes, and even fabric swatches, intertwining to create a narrative that's uniquely yours. Even items you wouldn't think of as decorations.
The Essence of Creative FreedomThe beauty of a junk journal lies in its inherent freedom. There are no strict rules, no confines to adhere to – just an open invitation to let your creativity unfurl. This form of expression invites you to embrace imperfection, celebrate randomness, and find beauty in the unexpected. It's a tactile ode to the art of serendipity, where layering, gluing, and piecing together becomes a meditation.
Crafting Stories and MemoriesOne of the most magical aspects of junk journals is their ability to encapsulate stories and memories. Each page holds the potential to tell a tale, share a sentiment, or capture a moment in time. One of the joys of working on a junk journal is the thrill of the unexpected. A torn edge, an imperfectly aligned stamp, or a layer that surprises you – these "flaws" become the charming quirks that make your journal a work of art.
